Are You Eligible?

To be eligible for the JSW program you must:

  • be a permanent resident of Canada, landed immigrant, live-in caregiver on convention refugee

  • be able to communicate in the English language

  • be able to attend a 3 or 4 day, full time, training program

Canadian citizens, visitors or refugee claimants are NOT eligible for the JSW Program.

The Job Search Workshops are three-to-four days in length, with no cost to the participant, and can be taken during the day, in the evening, or on Saturdays.

GOAL:

To facilitate the employment of new immigrants to Ontario by familiarizing them with effective job-search practices and techniques in Canada in a culturally appropriate manner.

  • Self-Assessment of Skills
  • Effective Resume- and Cover Letter Writing
  • Application Forms
  • Networking and Techniques for Contacting Employers
  • Successful Interview Techniques
  • Overview of the Workplace
  • Workers’ Rights and Employment Standards

AFTER THE WORKSHOP:

  • Ongoing follow-up and support
  • Job leads
  • Free access to computers, printers, telephones,
  • Fax machines, photocopiers
  • Internet access
  • Networking
  • Childcare (at selected locations)

The Job Search Workshop is a program offered across Ontario by Citizenship and Immigration Canada.

Coordinated by COSTI and OCASI, these workshops are provided by qualified agencies and are open to recent immigrants.
